Globetrotters are always in search of exotic coastal regions with azure waters and sprawling stretches of shining sands. Even I am fascinated by the stunning landscapes of beaches and always prefer them above mountains and other places of tourist interests.

Whether you play a game of beach volleyball with your buddies or take a romantic walk on the shore with your loved one, every single thing gives a memory to cherish. As I have always been into adventure and water sports, there is a soft spot for sea side locations in my heart. I was happy to see the natural coconut plantations on this sandy shore that show how it has managed to stay away from the extensive land reclamation and urbanisation. Historic structures like Sembawang Jetty, Seletar Pier, Boat Slipway and Beaulieu House lend an old-world charm to this place.

Later, I also came to know that scenes of the famous Hollywood blockbuster flick called The Beach – starring Leonardo Di Caprio, were shot here.

My last visit during the  Thailand tour was the Freedom Beach and its spellbinding beauty still lingers in my mind. Located in the Phuket Island, this shore can only be reached either by a boat or a trek through a dense forest area. The white sand along with the indigo-blue water tempted me to keep beholding them and not remove my sight for once. It is an exotic hideaway situated amidst thick jungles and groves of tall trees. At the southern end of this seashore, I also engaged in snorkelling and felt delighted to explore the underwater flora and fauna.

Most of these coastlines are crowded with travellers throughout the day and the only way possible to reach them is by a boat. Given the opportunity, I would certainly want to visit these seaside locations once again and be a part of the natural beauty of Thailand.

Lying down on the shore under the sun or taking a romantic walk in a moonlit night, every moment spent on a beach is worth remembering. Byron Bay
Byron Bay

Beaches of Byron Bay are famous for their spectacular natural beauty, which lies in long stretches of powdery white sand and clear blue waves hitting the shore. What I liked the most about these beaches was their tranquillity and minimal crowd. Beaches here are known for offering quality surfs, which draw surfing enthusiasts and backpackers from different parts of the world. I had a great time in spotting large whales in the endless waters of the blue sea. Main Beach, Tallow Beach and Belongil Beach are the main points of interest, where tourists can enjoy activities like sky diving, snorkeling and scuba diving.

Whitehaven Beach, Queensland

Whitehaven Beach
Whitehaven Beach

As the name explains, Whitehaven Beach in Queensland is a scenic seashore carpeted with soft white sand. With a 7 km long stretch in the Whitsunday Island, this place is characterized by turquoise waters and silica sand, which contains the finest of grains. It is easy to walk on the shore during a bright sunny day as the sand does not heats up due to its high silica content. It is unarguably the most beautiful beach in Australia and is regarded as an ultimate photography paradise in the archipelago. Owing to its spectacular natural beauty and sincere efforts made towards keeping it so, this region has earned recognition as one of the cleanest and eco-friendly seafronts.

Bronte Beach, Sydney

Although smaller in comparison to other waterfronts of Australia, Bronte Beach succeeds in impressing tourists with various delightful water sport activities. This place is situated in the eastern suburbs of Sydney and is frequented by huge crowds throughout the year. The center of attraction at this beach is the bogey hole – a natural rock pool in the ocean. Surfing and sea bathing are the common activities at this shore, other than beach barbecues. Dotted with modern restaurants and cafés, Bronte offers a plethora of delights for every traveler.

Cable Beach, Western Australia

Cable Beach
Cable Beach

Cable Beach has a sprawling expanse of 22 km along the Indian Ocean in Western Australia. The relation of sun and the sea at this site makes it a sheer heaven for photographers from all over the world. As the orange sun rises and sets against distant horizons of the seemingly-endless ocean, some splendid vistas of nature are formed. The white sand at this place is in a spectacular contrast with the turquoise waters, thus, forming another stunning sight to behold and capture. While here, I enjoyed a multitude of activities like water sports and camel rides.

Mandalay Beach, Western Australia

Mandalay Beach

Tucked away in isolation, Mandalay Beach is a scenic seafront that is named after a Norwegian shipwreck. The rocky terrains of this white sand beach overlook the vast blue ocean and form a unique sight, much different than others I saw in Australia. This destination is accessible by a narrow boardwalk, which offers beautiful vistas on the way.

Bondi Beach, Sydney

The list of Australian beaches remains incomplete without the mention of Bondi Beach, which is situated in Sydney and represents the colourful beach culture in the country. Although it is just a km long, the number of attractions here are almost unlimited. This urban seafront is the ultimate fun destination in Sydney and a hotspot for surfing and international beach events. Dotted with restaurants, cafés and other modern establishments, this is certainly the place to be. In simple words, Bondi is an unmissable seaside attraction, which must be visited for its lively environment and vibrancy.

Palm Beach, Sydney

Palm Beach
Palm Beach

Lying in the southernmost part of Sydney, Palm Beach is a bustling seafront that is famous for surfs and long beach walks. Resting at the tip of a peninsula, this golden beach is flanked by the ocean on one side and Pittwater on the other. The Barrenjoey Lighthouse on this beach offers stunning distant views of the sprawling coastline of Sydney. From golf, rugby and other fun sports to fishing, sailing, kayaking and deep-water diving, tourists can enjoy a plethora of fun-filled activities at this place. I personally enjoyed swimming in the naturally formed ocean pool, which is situated to the south of the beach.

Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas

Four Miles Beach
Four Miles Beach

Four Mile Beach, as the name indicates, is a beautiful seafront that stretches up to 4 miles in the rocky terrains of Port Douglas. This white sand beach faces the turquoise sea and looks stunning when the sun shines at its brightest. Tall trees of palm are lined across the entire shoreline and appear to be dancing with the touch of the gentle sea breeze. Beholding the splendour of the setting sun from this place is something that attracts tourists and shutterbugs to this place. While at this destination, I spent some amazing time snorkeling and exploring the coral waters of the deep blue sea.

Scenic Beaches of Spain

The moment we think of holidays, the first thing that comes to our mind is a beach, at least it is true for me. I have travelled around the world and witnessed mountains, plateaus and deserts, but nothing excites me more than beaches. The sheer landscape, combining the beauty of crystal clear water and sand, is absolutely mesmerising. It is one of the reasons that compels me to opt for beach holidays every year. People from all over the world, especially ones living in cold countries, visit coastal areas in search of a welcome change in climatic conditions.

Apart from relaxing, what delights me more about beaches is that most of the times they are buzzing with people, yet they have a tranquil environs. Besides relaxation, these places are ideal spots to indulge in recreational activities. Being a sports lover, I am always up for a game of volleyball or football at the shore. If anyone happens to visit one of these places during the peak season, then they can take part in several other exciting activities, such as snorkelling, yachting and jet skiing.

Europe is one of the most visited continents in the world as far as tourism is concerned. Spain, located on the Iberian Peninsula, is a personal favorite as I find the beauty of this country unparalleled. It is among the three countries that boast of both coastlines, namely Mediterranean and Atlantic. A region with a rich history and strong culture, Spain has slowly developed into a premier centre for tourism in Europe. Owing its vast coastline, Spain is home to innumerable, stunning beaches, which are flocked by tourists from across the globe. Some of its regions that are dotted with beautiful beaches are Canary Islands, Ibiza, Andalucia, Catalonia, Valencia and Galicia. Since I have travelled to almost all parts of this country quite extensively, it would be only fair to list down names of the top seashore destinations of Spain.

 La Concha Beach, San Sebastian

La Concha Beach, San Sebastian
La Concha Beach, San Sebastian

Lying in the Basque country, La Concha is popular across Europe for its mesmerising beauty and is also a personal favourite. Since it lies in the capital of the Gipuzkoa province, a great deal of development has been done in order to make it a popular tourist spot. Considered to be a top urban beach, its setting in the Santa Clara Island makes this place a site worth visiting for anyone who loves the seaside. I was really impressed with the way authorities have maintained it despite constant tourist influx something that can take the charm away from the beauty of a place. Its location is a big advantage for tourists as they can easily reach other major tourist attractions from here. I have always loved the climb to the top of Mount Igueldo, which lies at the west end of La Concha.

Cala Llenya, Ibiza

Ibiza
Ibiza

Visiting Spain and not going to Ibiza is a crime that no beach lover would want to commit. Ibiza is a hot tourist destination and is a part of popular culture due to its effervescent nightlife and connection with music. In fact, whenever I want to have a good time, I plan a trip to Ibiza, mostly when a famous rock band is scheduled to perform here. However, Cala Llenya is a place that is ideal for families, unlike most others in this region. A quiet and serene place meant for just spending some good quality time lazing around, swimming or sunbathing. This beach is a favourite among locals, who spend weekends here, grilling meat, enjoying drinks and chatting. Anyone willing to mingle with locals, known as Ibicencos, can come here on weekends. The highlight of this location is that irrespective of the number of people visiting this place, it never seems crowded. Cala Llenya is a beach that is ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

 Es Trenc, Mallorca

Es Trenc, Mallorca
Es Trenc, Mallorca

Characterised by clear waters and golden sand, Es Trenc in Mallorca, or Majorca, is a well-known shore of this region. The thing that struck me the most about this beach was its tranquillity, which is quite unlike any other. When I reached here for the first time, I was taken aback by its sheer beauty. Stretched across an area of over 2 km, Es Trenc is often compared to the ones that people would usually find in the Caribbean. People can enjoy a swim in the shallow waters, something that makes it ideal for families with children. In addition, the fact that it is slightly isolated works in favour of people like me, who prefer less crowded places. While I was in Mallorca for a few days, all the free time was spent here reading and listening to slow music on my sun deck.

Playa De Illetes, Formentera

Playa De Illetes, Formentera
Playa De Illetes, Formentera

Albeit not that big a region, Formentera is among the best in Spain when it comes to seashores. A part of the Balearic Islands, this area is home to Playa De Illetes. As many would term it, Formentera is Ibiza without all the extravagant nightlife and crowd. Be it the picture-perfect setting or the serene surroundings, there is no match for the sheer peace tourists experience while here. Not crowded with restaurants and bars like beaches in Ibiza, Playa De Illetes is a great place to just spend some quite time, much like the Es Trenc in Mallorca. It is said that several Spaniards, after partying hard in Ibiza, head to this beach to finally come to their senses. Even though options are limited, there are a couple of restaurants that serve amazing seafood dishes.

Playa De Bolonia, Tarifa

Playa De Bolonia, Tarifa
Playa De Bolonia, Tarifa

The problem with a number of beaches in Spain is that due their splendid beauty, authorities have gone ahead and developed them extensively. Though it does not diminish the beauty, they do start going further away from their original state. However, there are a few that are still unspoilt and really natural, such as Playa De Bolonia in Tarifa. I have visited this place only once, but it was enough for me to be intrigued by its natural state. Despite that, tourists can find amenities like showers, beach umbrellas and restrooms over here, thereby making it easier for them to spend a day here. The best part about this place is that it is not really explored by a lot of people as they prefer going to areas with crowd. Anyone who loves nature will find Playa De Bolonia quite amazing.

El Cotillo, Fuerteventura

El Cotillo, Fuerteventura

Besides crowded beaches, there are some secluded ones in this nation, like the one I visited El Cotillo, which lies in the Canary Islands. It would be hard to express in words how well I connected with the laziness of this fishing village. The laziness of the entire environment is quite infectious and tourists feel like doing nothing but taking a long walk by themselves.

La Barrosa, Cadiz

Beauty and cleanliness is all that tourists can find at La Barrosa in Cadiz. With a bit of history attached to it, this beach, in recent times, has earned a lot of recognition and accolades. In fact, according to surveys and polls, La Barrosa has been voted as the best in Spain. It has also earned the European Union Blue Flag, something that the locals are quite proud of. This esplanade along this shore caters to needs of people from all age groups. While youngsters can visit the artificial promenade, elderly people can relax on the other end, which is peaceful and quiet.

It is often referred to as the Music Beach and hosts Festival Internacional de Benicassim, commonly known as FIB. People throng in numbers to be a part of this festival and at the same time spend fun-filled moments near the seashore.

Playa Victoria, Cadiz

The history of Cadiz combined with magnificence of Playa Victoria makes the latter an often-frequented beach in Andalusia, Spain. It is a paradise for water sport lovers and people who want to have a good time. Lively atmosphere, full of people and yet well maintained, Playa Victoria assures an excellent time. I had visited this location once during my trips to the country, and can honestly say, I had an amazing time chilling at one of the beach bars, locally known as chiringuitos.

The sound of waves hitting the shore and the cool breeze, and ample sunshine make these splendid destinations a favorite among globetrotters, including myself.
