Not only this, but the park features barbecue pits, camping spaces, sand play zones and event venues, which altogether ensure a wonderful time for visitors. Tourists can also enjoy fishing in the crystal clear waters that bound this western beach of Singapore.
Beach on Pasir Ris Park
Pasir Ris Park is one of the few places in Singapore, which showcase a perfect amalgam of nature and man-made efforts. The name of this park literally means beach bolt-rope, which is suggestive of a narrow coastline. Having a sprawling mangrove forest within its geographical bounds, the park serves as home to several bird species. I spent a good amount of time birdwatching and clicking pictures from the watching tower, especially built for this purpose. The park offers proper provisions for recreational activities like skating, bicycling, kayaking as well as several water sports. Food lovers can enjoy a variety of palatable delights, ranging from local seafood to international delicacies at this place.
Changi Beach Park
Counted amongst the oldest coastal parks in Singapore, Changi Beach Park is a frequented hangout spot for locals as well as tourists. This beach and park are situated at the north-eastern tip of the mainland and are historically associated with the Second World War. The sprawling shoreline at Changi is carpeted with sparkling white sand and dotted with coconut palms. Boasting an old-world charm, the seafront is a nostalgic reminder of the sixties and seventies. In present times, the park has barbecue pits, benches, shacks and playgrounds, which cater to varied demands of travellers. For the young and adventurous at heart, facilities for water sports, kayaking and bicycling are available out here.
Palawan Beach, Sentosa
While being in Sentosa – the idyllic island resort in Singapore, one place that fascinated me to the core was Palawan Beach. This man-made wonder lies in the heart of the southern coastline of the island and is considered a perfect picnic spot for families and groups. What drew my attention while being at this destination was the suspension bridge, linking it to a small islet, which is regarded as the closest point to the line of Equator in Asia. The coastline has an abundance of bars and shacks, where tourists can relish seafood, beverages and several other dietary delights. The kids club present at this location makes sure that your little ones are thoroughly engaged while you spend some romantic time together.
Siloso Beach, Sentosa
For the playful souls and fun-loving travellers, it is the perfect place to explore while being in Singapore. A part of the Sentosa Island, this seafront lies towards the west of its southern coast. This place is synonymous with beach volleyball and is frequented by sporty spirits throughout the year. Fun does not end at this sport as the there are facilities for other thrilling activities like skimboarding, kayaking, cycling and rollerblading at this place. If that does not excite you enough, then the themed bars and restaurants are sure to keep you enthralled. As the sun sets, the area gets alive with a vibrant nightlife, which managed to keep me awake throughout the night. Colourful, bustling and full of fun, Siloso is the ultimate destination for the young at heart.
Tanjong Beach, Sentosa
Amidst the three beautiful seafronts in Sentosa, Tanjong Beach is the one that has an aura of tranquility. It is shaped like the beautiful crescent moon and is lined with swaying coconut palms all over. The vast expanse of the sea looks mesmerising from this location, especially during the time of sunrise and sunset. I had a wonderful time in clicking photographs of the landscape of this scenic waterfront. As the sun sets, it looks stunning with the twinkling ship lights in the backdrop.
Situated ashore the Johor Straits, Punggol is an impressive waterfront, which is characterized by stretches of white sand and rocky formations. While the sandy portion of this shore is flocked by tourists for sunbathing and frolicking, the other part is frequented by those who love fishing. Photography lovers are sure to get delighted on visiting this place as it is famous for its beautiful vistas of sunrise and sunset.
Noordin Beach is a quiet and sandy seashore that is situated in the Pulau Ubin Island of Singapore. Covered with shining white sands and coconut palms, this seafront overlooks the vast expanse of the Johor Straits. One thing that attracts tourists towards this place is the excellent camping facility present here, which enables them to stay overnight and experience its glory after the sunset.
Travelers coming on Singapore holidays are sure to have memorable moments at its beaches. While adventure seekers can indulge in thrilling water sports, food lovers can taste a variety of authentic dishes on the seaside shacks. When I went to Singapore, the experience of visiting these beaches was simply marvellous. The nightlife at these sea side destinations was fascinating and kept me awake till dawn. Equally amazing were the scenic vistas, which were worth capturing in the camera. To be true, the archipelago nation of Singapore is a delight for all those who are in search of some new waterfronts to explore.
Though I have been a beach lover all my life, I still have a longing to explore more of such locations. These destinations are spread all across the world and for a globetrotter like me, they are never sufficient. Lately my visit included the beach destinations of Australia, Spain, Greece, and the highlight of this long excursion was the shores of Thailand. This beautiful nation lies in the southeast region of Asia and is flanked by the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand. In recent years, this land has transformed into a tourist hotspot owing to the variety of attractions a tourist can explore here.
There is a multitude of breathtaking islands, which are scattered all over Thailand. They include a variety of sheltered bays and coves that are flocked by travelers from all parts of the world. The shores of this region cater to the interest of honeymooners, romance seekers, family vacationers, solitude searchers and backpackers. Furthermore, numerous daredevil sports activities like water skiing, snorkelling, windsurfing, parasailing, canoeing, kayaking and banana boat riding can also be enjoyed at these place. Few of the locations are also ideal for ardent photographers as their landscape is rare to be seen anywhere in the world. Among a number of shores of this land, the ones I desire to visit again are:
Nai Harn Beach
Nai Harn Beach is located on the southern part of Phuket and is among the most tranquil seashores of Thailand. It is enclosed within dense green hills and still seems to be untouched by any human being. This coastline is spotless and comprises golden coloured sand and azure water, which is suitable for swimming. During my visit, I saw many tourists from the nearby regions anchoring their boats and yachts and enjoying sunbathing at the seaside. There are also a few restaurants built near this destination that serve mouth-watering local cuisine and are famous for their seafood. I even enjoyed getting massaged by the locals masseuses.
Patong Beach is undoubtedly the most exuberant and lively shore of Thailand, and is even mentioned as one of the most sought-after beaches of the world. It is almost impossible to get bored at this shore owing to a number of activities offered here. During the night time, the entire atmosphere of the coastline transforms to groovy and happening. Local DJs play foot-tapping music and the boisterous crowd revels with endless manoeuvres, thus, creating a vibrant ambience. In the daytime, several vacationers can be seen lazing on the silken sand and enjoying sunbathing, while other active souls indulge in swimming in the cool water. The seashore is surrounded by a number of hotels, discotheques, pubs and massage parlours, all of which provide a suitable environment to wellness seekers. Shopaholics like me specially get delighted after visiting this place.
Railay Beach on the southern coast of Thailand is an incredibly beautiful shore, which is surrounded by dense forest zone and massive limestone cliffs. It is located between the cities of Ao Nang and Krabi, and can only be accessed by a boat. It is flanked by the warm Andaman Sea that offers numerous recreational activities for tourists to indulge in. The adventurous sports of snorkelling, kayaking, white water rafting and diving can be enjoyed here. Along with these sports, several other daring acts, such as rock climbing, jungle trekking, quad biking and Elephant safari are also organised at and near the beach. During peak seasons, travellers from all over the world gather here to take part in all these events and enjoy their holidays.
During my tour to this country, one place that instantly caught my attention was the Maya Bay. This serene bay is located in the Kh Phi Phi Ley Island and is overlooked by lofty limestone cliffs. Inside, there are a few seaside locations, out of which the main one is packed with tourists throughout the year owing to its white velvety sand and translucent water. I was in elation after exploring this unfathomed piece of Phi Phi archipelago and witness its underwater corals and exotic fishes. The tall cliffs also provided me the opportunity to experience the fearsome act of diving from a greater altitude straight into the azure coloured aqua. Later, I also came to know that scenes of the famous Hollywood blockbuster flick called The Beach – starring Leonardo Di Caprio, were shot here.
Kata Beach is situated just a few km away from the Patong Beach and unlike the latter shore, this one is known for its state of quietude. The shore is dotted with leafy palm trees and comprises serene white sand and clear water. Dense green hills overlook this one mile long coastline, thus, providing a sense of calmness to its atmosphere. Tourists generally visit this place to repose under the glazing sun and swim into the cool aqua. The shore has gradually turned into a growing family vacation spot owing to a number of dining and shopping options in its vicinity. It is also considered ideal for clicking pictures as its landscape offers various opportunities to avid photographers.
White Sand Beach
The White Sand Beach, located in Koh Chang, is an exclusive seaside destination in the entire Thailand. After visiting this shore, I was touched by its serenity and wanted to behold it for long. The layer of white sand particles on the seashore suffice the name and offer a unique spectacle to onlookers. The two and a half km long stretch is crowded with tourists throughout the day who largely flock to admire it and swim in its turquoise water. Sitting ideally on the shore, I did not come to know when the sunset arrived as its hard to remove eyes from the vast white sand-sheet. This time of the evening marks the arrival of numerous locals and leisure strollers, and the atmosphere turns lively with the screeches of children and adults playing football and volleyball.
The locals call it Hat Chao Ley, and it is considered among the best locations in Thailand to engage in the activity of snorkeling. It has a two km long stretch of white silken sand and sapphire colored aqua. This mesmerising shore has an abundance of exotic marine life that attracts several tourists. This seashore is a prominent attraction of the Koh Lipe Island and gets its name from the breathtaking sunrise view it offers. During high season, the cool wind constantly gushes at the shore and invokes a soothing sense among people indulged in sunbathing. Being a sports adventurer myself, I highly enjoyed the act of snorkeling at the shore and was appeased to witness the vibrant coral and unique water species.
Although I experienced the nightlife of Patong Beach, there was still one shore that intrigued me to witness the same again. Haad Rin, a peninsular beach in the Island of Koh Pha Ngan, is acknowledged for its Full Moon Parties.
I had heard locals and tourists boasting about this shore and its wild atmosphere at night, and becoming a part of these groovy parties clarified all my misconceptions. During the day, the soft golden sand and the limpid aqua catches sight of a nature admirer, but the nights are all about revelling. Apart from having an effervescent environment, Haad Rin is also ideal for swimming and admiring the scenic beauty of the surroundings.
Just north to the Pantong Beach and on the west coast on Phuket Island lies the serene Kamala Beach. Unlike the other bustling shores of Thailand, this coastline is ideal for solitude seekers and people wanting some respite from the mundane city life. This shore is overlooks dense forests and is acknowledged for its uncluttered golden sands and pellucid water. After reaching this place, all I could do was gaze at the sapphire hues of the aqua and feel myself getting slowly lost into its beauty. Phuket holidays to this place are also suitable for those who prefer the calmness of the atmosphere rather than the clamour of crowds.
My last visit during the Thailand tour was the Freedom Beach and its spellbinding beauty still lingers in my mind. Located in the Phuket Island, this shore can only be reached either by a boat or a trek through a dense forest area. The white sand along with the indigo-blue water tempted me to keep beholding them and not remove my sight for once. It is an exotic hideaway situated amidst thick jungles and groves of tall trees. At the southern end of this seashore, I also engaged in snorkelling and felt delighted to explore the underwater flora and fauna.
Most of these coastlines are crowded with travellers throughout the day and the only way possible to reach them is by a boat. Given the opportunity, I would certainly want to visit these seaside locations once again and be a part of the natural beauty of Thailand.
A vacation at a seafront always delights those who love to relax on dazzling sand beholding gushing waves hitting the shores and admiring the beautiful sunrise and sunset. There are numerous such locations around the world for travellers to visit and one among them is the country of Greece. This southernmost European nation is bestowed with several beautiful beaches and my experience at these places will always be a part of my nostalgia. After an excursion to these locations, all I am left with is the enchanting memories of turquoise aqua and white hues of shores. These thoughts keep lingering in my mind and all I want to do is go back to those spots to behold them once more.
Greece is flanked by the Ionian, Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, each of these contributing to the extensive coastline of the nation that exceeds up to 16000 km. Half of the Greek coasts are dotted with majestic islands and isles, which are largely in the Aegean Sea. Visitors from all over the globe flock to this destination to explore its shorelines, which provide them with the opportunity to relax and engage in a variety of exciting water sports. The magnificence of Greek beaches can be determined by the fact that almost all have been rewarded with the Blue Flag grant year after year. This survey is conducted to examine the quality of water and the associated environment of the beaches located across over 40 European nations. During my journey to this country, I witnessed the serenity of these shores and was completely mesmerized by their beauty. Some of the beaches of Greece that I have been to and desire to go again are:
Located on the Kefalonia Island in the Ionian Sea, Myrtos Beach is undoubtedly among the most exotic ones of the country. It is situated amidst the Kalon Oros and Agia Dynati mountains, and is dotted with white cliffs of limestone. This one-mile stretch of coast seems to be adorned with white pebbles of various size. Although, adventurous activities are not organised here, the place is still famed for enjoying sunbathe and taking a dip into the cool blue water. Locals consider this place as one of the most dramatic spots of Greece and I cannot agree more. The sunset at the shore is breathtaking and invokes a feeling of euphoria as the huge fireball slowly disappears into the Ionian Sea, providing a great spectacle to onlookers.
Elafonissi is an island situated in the southwest region of Crete and serves as a protected nature reserve for a variety of floral and faunal species. The region comprises immaculate beaches on its either side that are known for their pellucid water and white sands, which transform into a hue of pink at few places.
The water at these beaches is generally shallow and suitable for both adults and children to swim without any risks. There are a few tavernas nearby and rooms for rent. A prominent attraction located in proximity to this place is the Chrissoskalitissa Monastery.
This shore is located at the northern end of Anti Paxos Island, inside a large cove that is surrounded by cliffs. It is entirely dotted with fine shingles along with a variety of vegetation, thus, creating a breathtaking landscape. The moment I stepped on this beach, I was pleased to sense the velvety pearl-coloured sand and my eyes were just focussed on the lucid water shimmered by the sunrays. The indigo coloured water at this location is suitable for swimming and indulging in other fun-filled activities like snorkelling and diving. The favourable condition of this location attracts numerous tourists from the nearby isles during the summer season.
Also called as the Shipwreck Beach, this shore is actually a covein the Zakynthos Island. The name shipwreck has been given to the beach as it comprises the wreck of a ship of smugglers known as Panagiotis. The entire region is wrapped in limestone cliffs and is renowned for its pristine water and white sand. I was advised to carry my camera along as the beach has been described as a paradise for an avid photographer. This place can only be reached by a boat, which can be easily availed from Port Vromi.
Koukounaries Beach is situated on the Island of Skiathos and is most popular among family vacationers and sports enthusiasts. The name of this destination means Pine Cones and is sufficed by the dense coniferous forest in its surroundings. It stretches up to a mile and is speckled with golden sand and tall pine trees. This seashore has also been given the grant of Blue Flag for it is uncluttered and has translucent water. Being a daredevil, I was exalted after participating in the variety of sports activity organised at this shore, such as banana boat ride, peddle boating, sailing and water skiing. There are also a couple of tavernas out here that serve delicacies of the native land as well as other regions.
During my sojourn to Greece, one beach that made a huge impression on my mind was Porto Katsiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porto_Katsiki) . Located on the Lefkada Island, this seashore is among the foremost to be visited in entire Europe. It is overlooked by a steep arc-shaped cliff that seems to be protruding from the limpid water. There is a series of steps created on the cliff for a convenient descent to the shore. After climbing them down, I was left amazed after stepping onto the golden sand and discovering other sightseers like me, enjoying sunbathing. At this shore, a variety of water sports can be enjoyed, such as swimming, sailing and surfing.
Sarakiniko Beach is situated at the northern part of the Milos Island and is a prominent attraction of the region. The highlight about this shore is its landscape, which includes hollowed rocks sitting horizontally. This seashore is also known as Moonscape Beach due to the bone-white color of rocks, which have been eroded by the saline water. Standing at one end of the shore, I was overwhelmed by the picturesque scenery created by the indigo blue aqua touching the surface of white volcanic sediments. This coastline provides an ideal outing experience, and people can also enjoy taking a dip in the cool water.
Another fantastic such place to visit in Greece is the Egremni Beach situated at the southwest region of the Island of Lefkada. This shore is a famed destination of the country as well as the entire Europe owing to its sapphire-coloured water and views of sunrise and sunset. I had to climb down almost 340 steps, which are aligned on the cliff overlooking this beach. The shore stretches to more than one and a half mile and is generally not that crowded, thus, making it an ideal spot for solitude seekers. Since there no lifeguards on duty at this place, it is advised to be careful while indulging in water sports, especially if it involves kids as sometimes the waves can be quite strong.
If travellers want to escape from the paradigm of crowded shores, then Triades Beach serves as an ideal spot for them. This secluded seashore is located on the western part of the Island of Milos and in actuality is a group of three beaches having similar characteristics. The shore is defined by its azure water and golden sand that are idyllic for spending leisure time. It is not much organised as compared to the other coastlines of the nation, but offers a sense of tranquillity to visitors. I arrived here during the evening time and was welcomed by strong gushes of cool breeze.
Valto Beach is located at a shorter distance from the town of Parga and is hugely famous for its spectacular scenery. It is dotted with shingles of various shapes and sizes, and includes a Venetian Castle of Parga in the backdrop. Its crystal clear water and silken sand had a soothing impact on my mind and for a moment I was completely lost in its natural beauty. Apart from being a picturesque site, this shore also offers numerous recreational activities, such as water skiing, scuba diving, jet skiing and paragliding. I also had a chance to rent a canoe and begin my small expedition in the vast Ionian Sea.
Greece is a year-round destination and is flocked by millions, and a major chunk of this population heads to its serene beaches. Family vacationers, romance seekers and backpackers can be seen swarming to these locations in search of peace and tranquillity to relax and unwind. As for me, I went to these locations to feel close to nature and again desire to do so for the happiness and joy I experienced. Even though, it might seem obvious but my advice to people planning to visit Greece is to carry their cameras along with them to capture the beauty of these beaches.
The moment we think of holidays, the first thing that comes to our mind is a beach, at least it is true for me. I have travelled around the world and witnessed mountains, plateaus and deserts, but nothing excites me more than beaches. The sheer landscape, combining the beauty of crystal clear water and sand, is absolutely mesmerising. It is one of the reasons that compels me to opt for beach holidays every year. People from all over the world, especially ones living in cold countries, visit coastal areas in search of a welcome change in climatic conditions.
Apart from relaxing, what delights me more about beaches is that most of the times they are buzzing with people, yet they have a tranquil environs. Besides relaxation, these places are ideal spots to indulge in recreational activities. Being a sports lover, I am always up for a game of volleyball or football at the shore. If anyone happens to visit one of these places during the peak season, then they can take part in several other exciting activities, such as snorkelling, yachting and jet skiing.
Europe is one of the most visited continents in the world as far as tourism is concerned. Spain, located on the Iberian Peninsula, is a personal favorite as I find the beauty of this country unparalleled. It is among the three countries that boast of both coastlines, namely Mediterranean and Atlantic. A region with a rich history and strong culture, Spain has slowly developed into a premier centre for tourism in Europe. Owing its vast coastline, Spain is home to innumerable, stunning beaches, which are flocked by tourists from across the globe. Some of its regions that are dotted with beautiful beaches are Canary Islands, Ibiza, Andalucia, Catalonia, Valencia and Galicia. Since I have travelled to almost all parts of this country quite extensively, it would be only fair to list down names of the top seashore destinations of Spain.
La Concha Beach, San Sebastian
Lying in the Basque country, La Concha is popular across Europe for its mesmerising beauty and is also a personal favourite. Since it lies in the capital of the Gipuzkoa province, a great deal of development has been done in order to make it a popular tourist spot. Considered to be a top urban beach, its setting in the Santa Clara Island makes this place a site worth visiting for anyone who loves the seaside. I was really impressed with the way authorities have maintained it despite constant tourist influx something that can take the charm away from the beauty of a place. Its location is a big advantage for tourists as they can easily reach other major tourist attractions from here. I have always loved the climb to the top of Mount Igueldo, which lies at the west end of La Concha.
Cala Llenya, Ibiza
Visiting Spain and not going to Ibiza is a crime that no beach lover would want to commit. Ibiza is a hot tourist destination and is a part of popular culture due to its effervescent nightlife and connection with music. In fact, whenever I want to have a good time, I plan a trip to Ibiza, mostly when a famous rock band is scheduled to perform here. However, Cala Llenya is a place that is ideal for families, unlike most others in this region. A quiet and serene place meant for just spending some good quality time lazing around, swimming or sunbathing. This beach is a favourite among locals, who spend weekends here, grilling meat, enjoying drinks and chatting. Anyone willing to mingle with locals, known as Ibicencos, can come here on weekends. The highlight of this location is that irrespective of the number of people visiting this place, it never seems crowded. Cala Llenya is a beach that is ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
Es Trenc, Mallorca
Characterised by clear waters and golden sand, Es Trenc in Mallorca, or Majorca, is a well-known shore of this region. The thing that struck me the most about this beach was its tranquillity, which is quite unlike any other. When I reached here for the first time, I was taken aback by its sheer beauty. Stretched across an area of over 2 km, Es Trenc is often compared to the ones that people would usually find in the Caribbean. People can enjoy a swim in the shallow waters, something that makes it ideal for families with children. In addition, the fact that it is slightly isolated works in favour of people like me, who prefer less crowded places. While I was in Mallorca for a few days, all the free time was spent here reading and listening to slow music on my sun deck.
Playa De Illetes, Formentera
Albeit not that big a region, Formentera is among the best in Spain when it comes to seashores. A part of the Balearic Islands, this area is home to Playa De Illetes. As many would term it, Formentera is Ibiza without all the extravagant nightlife and crowd. Be it the picture-perfect setting or the serene surroundings, there is no match for the sheer peace tourists experience while here. Not crowded with restaurants and bars like beaches in Ibiza, Playa De Illetes is a great place to just spend some quite time, much like the Es Trenc in Mallorca. It is said that several Spaniards, after partying hard in Ibiza, head to this beach to finally come to their senses. Even though options are limited, there are a couple of restaurants that serve amazing seafood dishes.
Playa De Bolonia, Tarifa
The problem with a number of beaches in Spain is that due their splendid beauty, authorities have gone ahead and developed them extensively. Though it does not diminish the beauty, they do start going further away from their original state. However, there are a few that are still unspoilt and really natural, such as Playa De Bolonia in Tarifa. I have visited this place only once, but it was enough for me to be intrigued by its natural state. Despite that, tourists can find amenities like showers, beach umbrellas and restrooms over here, thereby making it easier for them to spend a day here. The best part about this place is that it is not really explored by a lot of people as they prefer going to areas with crowd. Anyone who loves nature will find Playa De Bolonia quite amazing.
El Cotillo, Fuerteventura
Besides crowded beaches, there are some secluded ones in this nation, like the one I visited El Cotillo, which lies in the Canary Islands. It would be hard to express in words how well I connected with the laziness of this fishing village. The laziness of the entire environment is quite infectious and tourists feel like doing nothing but taking a long walk by themselves.
La Barrosa, Cadiz
Beauty and cleanliness is all that tourists can find at La Barrosa in Cadiz. With a bit of history attached to it, this beach, in recent times, has earned a lot of recognition and accolades. In fact, according to surveys and polls, La Barrosa has been voted as the best in Spain. It has also earned the European Union Blue Flag, something that the locals are quite proud of. This esplanade along this shore caters to needs of people from all age groups. While youngsters can visit the artificial promenade, elderly people can relax on the other end, which is peaceful and quiet.
Playa De Mazagon, Huelva
Anyone looking to get tan can head to Playa De Mazagon in Huelva, which experiences close to 3000 hours of sunshine in a year. Calm, serene and looking glorious under the sun, this beach lies between Huelva and Matalascanas. Dotted with pine trees and cliffs, Playa De Mazagon is the ideal destination for people who love sunshine and sunbathing.
Benicassim, Costa Azahar
Benicassim, Costa Azahar
Benicassim in Costa Azahar is seafront that was once controlled by pirates. Thankfully, there is no chance of being attacked by the pirates now as it has turned into a popular tourist destination. It is often referred to as the Music Beach and hosts Festival Internacional de Benicassim, commonly known as FIB. People throng in numbers to be a part of this festival and at the same time spend fun-filled moments near the seashore.
Playa Victoria, Cadiz
The history of Cadiz combined with magnificence of Playa Victoria makes the latter an often-frequented beach in Andalusia, Spain. It is a paradise for water sport lovers and people who want to have a good time. Lively atmosphere, full of people and yet well maintained, Playa Victoria assures an excellent time. I had visited this location once during my trips to the country, and can honestly say, I had an amazing time chilling at one of the beach bars, locally known as chiringuitos.
The sound of waves hitting the shore and the cool breeze, and ample sunshine make these splendid destinations a favorite among globetrotters, including myself.
